Just to let you all know, I'm going to be taking a little break from Hey Neg stuff for a few days, so I can get on with the other work we have for Ron and Adam - it's just as important. Hope you've all enjoyed Christmas and are looking forward to New Year!

Layouts
I have now scanned in all the layouts that we had, just as simple greyscale TIFFs. If you need one for the shot you're doing, let me know and I can send it to you.

update
hey.
ive tracked the motion from shot 31c by simply tracing off my computer screen, taping my peg bar to the screen. just about to start drawing in the caracters.
After that im going to start animating shot 50.(where they come out of the strip bar and into the blues mobile)

shot20
update: I have completed animation on shot 20. Will ink it next.
I will also scan all the layouts tomorrow (I've been having problems with my scanner, but seem to have found a way round it). Let me know if you need any specific layouts for your shot.
A note on inking:
Put a clean sheet of paper over the top of a frame of animation (make sure it's holepunched for the peg bar), trace it off, and number it exactly the same as your animation.
Use one confident line for the inking, rather than lots of little feathered lines.
Try to use a 0.3 pen for the most part (if you have one; if you don't, it would be great if you could buy one so the film looks consistent). Use a 0.1 for faces as it's easier because faces can be small and fiddly!
As you will have read in the email, don't colour anything yet. We are debating whether we wil have time for colouring. Still animate quickly though, as both Gemma and I would still very much like the film to be in colour. So just get the line test okayed, then ink and scan :)
A note on scanning:
Stick your peg bar to the side of the scanner, making sure the tape or whatever isn't on the plate of glass. Maybe try blutac, but make sure the peg bar is stable. Then place your animation on the glass (face down) and scan each frame (obviously).
Scan at 300dpi, as a PNG.
Label with the shot number. And frame number if you can (though most scanners are able to label scans numerically, like shot20_001, shot20_002, shot20_003, etc).
To make it easy to find, I suggest saving shots you scan in individual folders, e.g. folder 'Shot_20' has all frames for shot 20 in it, folder 'Shot_55' has all frames for shot 55 in it, etc.

vehicle colouring
ive encountered a problem with maxandcolouring. Basicaly filling the colour on the cars in photoshop is a massive pain. The line work after doing smoothing groups always seems to have problems filling in that thre are always some gaps. The time taken to clean these gaps up in photoshop is ridiculous so i suggest that we do the colouring directly in max by selecting different faces. the colours are obviously exactly the same as that would be done in photoshop and we dont have to spend time colouring frame by frame. im working on some colour test for the vehcles now. will post these on the blog when im done.
this is a quick colour test by selecting faces in max. this is in no way perfect but i just wanted to prove that we can make maxcolouring look the same as if we coloured in photoshop. the advantage is that when weve done it once in the scene it is done! lewis

max shots
I've done already shot 29, with Bliss' leg/foot, and am going to do shot 30. If nobody else wants it, I'd like to do shot 31 b as well (where the three of them are riding along the road, toward camera (but the max shot is just a still, I think))
Lauren
edit: 31b is the shot that lewis just posted, in fact. lol

shot 31
max shots
The max shots are ready for people to begin animating over. As you know, some are just stills and some are image sequences so make a post if you are going to begin animating it so we can tick it off.the shots will be posted here but email either me, lauren or gemma if you want the file if you cant download it from here.

character design: costume colours
Bonjour tout le monde :) Here are the character model sheets detailing the colours for each band member's outfit. Written next to each colour are the RGB values. Type these into your colour selector to ensure you get exactly the same colour. There will be Honkers Girls colours to come, along with a step by step for the suggested method for scanning in your animation and colouring it.
NOTE: Don't draw on the American flag on the back of Bliss' jacket; we decided it would be too difficult to animate. And don't draw the tassels on Matt's jacket (also very difficult to animate); instead, just draw the diagonal lines across shoulders and chest (front view) and squarish line across shoulders (back view).

Felix Walking
My first attempt to draw a walk cycle for Felix. He doesn't look like Felix but, at least, he walks. :)

Girls
I think we have gone for the hourglass look, with thin arms and legs, the calves have a little shape to them, but the thighs and arms are pretty much straght and tube like. Oh also an important thing to remember is the crotch is flat....there is quite a large gap between the thighs. Any problems with drawing the girls come and talk to me about it. I'll help you out.
Here are some ideas for the Females i drew up.

Character Design pt.4.5
Here you go! Some more (Felix, Prof T, and Reverend). Get practising, you'll be animating them on Monday! Any problems you run into, let Gemma and I know on Monday. I will upload a line up shortly, so you can see their heights relative to each other, and there will be a sheet on hands, with their general rules, and for the heads too.
A note about Reverend's costume: Gemma and I did like the Confederate shirt that Aaron drew, but decided it would become very tricky to get it drawn right in perspective, and get all the little stars on it, so thought dungarees would be easier to draw.
General notes on drawing the bodies:
- Feet are always the same length as the forearm (or close enough)
- Legs are about a third of the width of the torso
- Bottom of wrists come in line with crotch (except Razor, where the TOP of the wrists come in line with the crotch)
- Torso approximately 4-5 shoulder circles wide
- Elbows always come at halfway point of torso box (this is also where the waist is)
- Fingers always reach halfway between hip (bottom of torso box) and knee joint
- Middle finger is same length as the palm
Check each sheet for other details. This is an overview of general rules.

Character Design pt.4
At long last, we have model sheets!!! Here are three of the band members, Captain Bliss, Matt Ord, and Razor. Start drawing them; you'll be animating one of them on Monday!
A couple notes: We may lose the American flag on Bliss' jacket, or make it really simple; we'll see. Also, we will probably lose the tassles on Matt's jacket as they would just be insane to animate!
